Napkins
For my birthday, K. and I had lunch in a really great French bistro (the best chocolate fondant I have ever eaten (I was very happy that day)) and they had lovely fabric napkins. I wanted to have them at home, too, so I made some. I found this tutorial for making mitered corners and I have to say it looks nice. M. really liked them and decided to borrow them to play with, so the stack in the photo is a little short.

They are darling.
I’m fond of checked fabric so, I’m a little “bit” partial
and I’m glad to know you sew too!
-thanks for the link, corners are tricky sometimes-
Happy belated birthday! I have been meaning to get (or make) napkins for us for years now. Somehow I never get around to it. I think I need to take a trip to the salvation army and dig in the boxes of fabric they have there. They might even have napkins there?
I have some similar material that I’d thought to make an apron with. Napkins seem an even better idea – so cheery. I can only hope to achieve even a little of the perfection of your corners. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thank you, all of you! I only sew a little bit and mostly square things (bed linen for the kids, curtains etc) so I was a little proud of myself for doing those corners. I can tell you it’s a lot easier with a good iron and checked fabric (built-in folding lines!). I am so happy with them. Worth the time! Mostly I wanted them so we could be a little more green but I really like this fabric, so it’s a win-win thing.
My email was broken for a couple of days and I missed your comments until now – a little stupid but actually quite nice to find all of them at the same time
Just a little hello again as I spent the weekend at a friend’s house where I discovered – gingham napkins! Now I really will make them. I’m delighted to learn that someone else mostly makes square things (like I knit long, thin things). Enjoy your napkins.
Yes! Those are sweet bistro style napkins… to recall a happy day of feasting and all of those good things.
