outside

Sorry to have been away for so long. Spring is finally here. The greenhouse is up. Seeds have been sown (aubergines, pepper, tomatoes, basil and sweet peas) in pots in the windowsill. M. and I were in the garden today and picked some daffodils to take inside. They are still closed and M. crawled up [...]

The last of the roses. A record-breakingly mild november let them last until December. This is Astrid Lindgren; isn’t she beautiful, even in decay?

Berry harvest 2009

This is what I picked from our three bushes this year. One redcurrant bush , one gooseberry and one red gooseberry. All of them were planted in May 2008. I think they did quite well – despite the fact that I didn’t know you’re not supposed to fertilize the gooseberries (at all?) until I had [...]

More gardening

10 Jobs for January.
Not all of this applies to me and my very small-scale kitchen garden, but digging in some manure and generally tidying the vegetable beds does, as well as pruning the berries. If I can stand the cold.

January garden (ungardening)

Something green is popping up in the garden. Definitely snowdrops, I saw the smallest peek of white. And some other bulbs I have no idea what are. I’ve forgotten half of what I planted in autumn. I am thinking, very slowly, about this year’s garden projects. I didn’t get around to much really the past [...]

Slow Gardening

We have Slow Food, so why not slow gardening? I especially like the bit about using simple tools instead of motorised ones. More environmentally friendly and cheaper, too.

Outside

It’s so dark now. Changing to daylight savings time is always like flicking a switch. I want to get outside more while I have the chance to do so (my maternity leave ends at New Year). Yesterday, when we came home from our baby rhythmics class, there was still a bit of light, and M. [...]

Visual cleaning

A small makeover. I’m fighting to make the wordpress stylesheet do what I want, but I can’t erase the border down the sides. Sigh. Today we did laundry and other practical things. M sleeps outside during the day and loves it. Planethalder asked what he thinks of the garden and seeing trees and leaves for [...]

The moon is just a scraping in the high sky. We’ve planted gooseberries, raspberries and a redcurrant bush; when I look at the bottom of the garden it’s as if one of those tv teams came by. There’s even a lavender in a huge pot and pathways and everything. The grass is long and the [...]

Seeds

I spent the evening trying to get a tired little boy to sleep and then cooking spaghetti with tomato sauce from a bottle. The sauce was Italian and organic, but somehow they all taste the same (bad) way. I planted some seeds the other day, finally. Squash and physalis, a really odd mix, but anyway. [...]
