I’m loving issue 9 of this joy+ride. Reading about the heat of summer in Melbourne is like a shot of vitamines. The text and drawings play so well together. I spent the evening trying to get a tired little boy to sleep and then cooking spaghetti with tomato sauce from a bottle. The sauce was Italian and organic, but somehow they all taste the same (bad) way. I planted some seeds the other day, finally. Squash and physalis, a really odd mix, but anyway. [...] I went into the city today for the first time since M was born. He slept the whole time and only woke up to eat, have his diaper changed and give me some huge smiles. Breastfeeding has helped my reading in more than one way, actually. Normally I read very quickly, racing through the pages, but now I’m forced to put down the book every five minutes and can only read for forty-five minutes – maximum – at a time. Mostly less. It takes me a lot longer to finish [...] I thought reading would be over when the baby arrived. And yes, it’s been insanely busy, and for several days in a row some weeks ago I didn’t have a warm meal at all, but breastfeeding is practical, and it leaves one hand free for holding a book (or the remote).
